About this species

White pine is a tall, graceful native evergreen known for its soft, flexible needles arranged in bundles of five, giving the tree a feathery, elegant appearance. Its straight trunk and layered branching create a distinctive silhouette that stands out in both forests and landscaped areas. White pine thrives in well-drained soils and full sun but is adaptable enough to grow in a variety of conditions across Ohio. The tree produces long, slender cones and provides valuable shelter and food for wildlife, including birds and small mammals. With its rapid growth, towering height, and historical significance, white pine remains a cherished species in both natural and managed landscapes.
