About this species

Norway spruce is a large, fast-growing evergreen known for its sweeping, pendulous branch tips and dense, pyramidal form. Its dark green needles are short, stiff, and sharply pointed, giving the tree a rich, textured appearance throughout the year. Norway spruce thrives in well-drained soils and full sun, and it is widely planted in Ohio for windbreaks, reforestation, and ornamental landscapes. The tree produces long, cylindrical cones that hang gracefully from its branches, adding seasonal interest. With its adaptability, strong wood, and striking form, Norway spruce remains a reliable and visually appealing choice for both windbreaks and urban plantings.

Planting notes

Dense windbreaks and screening; tolerates cold exposed sites.
